Arnold H. Westendorf, 92, of Tripoli, died Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Unity Point/Allen Hospital In Waterloo.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Tripoli with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 14th at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arnold Henry, son of Herman and Amanda (Judisch) Westendorf, was born April 29, 1923, in rural Sumner, Iowa. He was baptized on May 13, 1923, and confirmed May 21, 1937, at St. John Lutheran-Buck Creek. He received his education in the Parochial Schools at Buck Creek. On June 14, 1945, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Tegtmeier, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. Arnold farmed in the Tripoli area and retired in 1985. He is a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli where he served as a trustee, deacon, and on the cemetery committee. He also served as director of the Farmer’s Telephone Company. Arnold enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends, but most especially enjoyed time fishing with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy of Tripoli, he is survived by two children, Gayl (Laura) Westendorf of Orinda, California and Mary (Dallas) Rathe of Lamont; six grandchildren; Todd (Robyn) Rathe, Tim (Carol) Rathe, Dolores (Steve) Hughes, Ryan (Clancy) Rathe, John (Stephanie) Westendorf, Amanda Westendorf and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Paul and Trent Rathe; one sister, Malinda Westendorf; and one brother-in-law, Ervin Westendorf.
